Outage Update

Jan 25 2010, 05:55 PM

At around 1PM EST, storms that hit our area took down power. Several telecommunications lines are downed in our location in new jersey.

At 4PM EST we enabled our backup generators. We're still without power to the location. The poles are damaged and need to be replaced. We'll keep you posted as to the status of the situation. For now, all services have been restored.

Please note: This is the first time we have had to enact the backup generators, and although they appear to be working properly, there is still a chance the system could go down again. However, thus far it appears to be working well and can support the load.

Power was restored to the building. We took the time to hook up a new power supply and have rebooted the server and all services again as a result. At this time we are unsure if the situation is completely solved but we will be monitoring it.

We apologize for the inconveniences,

IRC Server Updates

Jan 24 2010, 04:51 AM

We've updated the IRC/"Live Chat" server tied to JFB boards. The software, although working correctly with no security issues, was really old. There was some minor downtime for about 15 minutes while I did all of these updates:

  • Address changed to irc.jcink.net and name to JcinkNET (name pending, possibly).
  • New feature - we have SSL now. Connect on port 6697.
  • New feature - Hostnames are now properly scrambled. This also makes host banning much easier in the case of troublesome users.
  • Rebuilt server from scratch to latest version.
  • Rebuilt services server from scratch. (nickserv, chanserv, etc) to latest version - Kept all channel and nickname data
  • Decreased ping-out time to 121 seconds. Much nicer than 300, we'll see how it goes.
There should be no changes or issues for you or your members. You can continue to use irc(d).jcink.com to connect, although the new preferred address is irc.jcink.net.

Please let us know if you encounter any issues. Thanks!

Bandwidth Upgrades

Jan 18 2010, 04:24 PM

We have put in an order for some bandwidth upgrades which will occur within the next 24-48 hours. This will increase speed of our network line and give us additional capacity to grow and create new services. Faster page loads may occur for you as a result.

The upgrade process for this should be completely transparent to everyone and there shouldn't be a need to do anything but wait. No downtime should occur, but we are posting this message just in case we're required to do some quick work with the networking equipment.

Network Downtime

Jan 16 2010, 04:28 PM

We had a network outage due to a failed network box. The box has been repaired and we'll be monitoring it closely to check for issues.

We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences.

Additionally I'd like encourage people to follow my account on twitter to get news about network outages and updates in the future.

ACP Login Splash

Nov 21 2009, 10:29 PM

The JFB Administration control panel has a new login splash screen. We hope you'll enjoy the updated design.

The design is optimized and tested for view in modern browsers IE 7, 8, and Firefox 3. It should look something like the attached image. Please note that it looks best if you're using the Alpha Blue skin for the Admin CP. Activate it under Admin CP -> General Settings -> Theme choice for the AdminCP. Otherwise it will simply take on the older style.

If you have any issues accessing the control panel after this update, or you find errors in the design, please let us know here. Comments are welcome.

EDIT: I have just updated the logo to match the log in page, and smooth out the text. Hope you all enjoy the new log in page. -Taylor W

Routing Maintenance

Nov 8 2009, 08:02 PM

Monday, November 9th, from 12AM EST to 3AM EST we will be doing maintenance sometime within this window. We need to change up some routing cables again in order to clean up some networking equipment. This should take less than an hour to complete.

Planned Maintenance Notice

Oct 26 2009, 03:55 AM

We will be doing some maintenance on Tuesday early morning at around 2-3AM EST. We estimate this maintenance will last around an hour or two. The server has to be off during this time, so it will be unreachable. This maintenance is partly backup related which is why the downtime is required. The work will be done as quickly as possible and during our hours of least server traffic of course.

Skin Imports & More

Oct 16 2009, 03:09 PM

The import skin files feature is now officially announced and available to all. This is a new feature for Jcink Forum Boards that will change how we all manage skins on our forums for the better. What this means is that it is now easy for you to import, backup/export, and install new skin XML files or pieces of them to mix and match. There is nothing else to do - it's simply one click importing of skin files.

Click here for complete information on the new feature

Additionally, we've made some other changes along the way:

  • Behavior of saving stylsheets and wrappers has changed. No longer redirected after saving changes, making it easier to edit
  • Cleaned up some useless/bugged features from the skinning area (such as color picker, etc).
  • Removed some irrelevant data from the skin set adder.

Two "surprises" with this update also related to skinning/design:

  • You can now store 50 macro, wrapper, stylesheet, and skin sets! We've increased it by 30, so you should have plenty of room for new skins that will come about as a result of this new system.
  • The latest version of jquery is now available automatically on all boards.

I'd also like to thank everybody who helped me test it, along with Gunblaza and card123 for being some of the first to make some of their skins available on this platform. Check the skinning section for some of their work.

Enjoy the update, and let us know of any issues you may have.
