[RAM INSTALL IN AN HOUR] Server Too Busy Errors
Jul 10 2007, 12:11 AMThe "server too busy" or "server is restarting" errors have been popping up at random causing the page to not be access-able for about 3 minutes or so until it unwinds or settles down.
Lately there has been more forums registered than usual; it's getting more activity and popularity. On top of this, the current services and existing sites on the server continue to grow. This is a good thing. But, it creates growing pains and here is the problem.
We're running low on RAM. 95% of it is in use all the time now, and at the moment 500MB of memory or so is being served off the hard disk. Anyone who knows about RAM knows that to be storing anything on a hard disk and using it as RAM is a very bad thing and makes things slower, and the CPU load higher.
Therefore I've gone ahead and purchased 2GB of RAM which should drastically improve performance.
The RAM should arrive soon. Of course to install it will require some downtime. Details will be posted when it arrives.

ok heres what you do
you open the case
have the ram in your hand the slots open have somone turn off the computer the second its off push it in it will only be about 5 minute downtime

Yeah this needs to be taken into effect soon. I find that this happens about every 30 minutes or even more.

I tried doing a few things earlier to free up some more RAM, maybe it will help till the new stuffage arrives.

The load seems a lot lower since a few adjustments to save RAM. Just, can't last long like that.

No, not at all.
There's no danger of any data loss with this whole problem. It's just the CPU is overloading.
So, nobody has to worry about any information being lost.

The RAM should be coming in sometime this week, thankfully. 3 days to process and 5 business days to ship, so I'm hoping by friday, but even more hopefully thursday. Hoping it's thursday as I don't like the prospect of shutting down late on a friday night, but If I must...
