Slow Pageloads

Nov 27 2007, 08:11 PM

I am making this post to address the issue of slow page loading. Chances are, you've probably noticed it already, and information on the issue was acknowledged though no official global announcement was made.

From anywhere in between 12PM EST to 11PM EST, pages may hang, or require a refresh or two to pull up. Images wont load without a refresh of the page. Or, you'll get a timeout error period.

We're working on this problem, but the fault does not lie with us. I expect this issue to be fixed by December 3rd, and information will be posted then

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and apologies.

Just wondering, when you say "premium" do you mean the Boost plan or something else? Just wondering, because I use Optimum standard right now. And not to pour salt in the wound, but I hardly ever got the problems you described here.

  2. Jcink Says:

I meant the Boost plan, I consider that a more premium package since you have to pay more money a month to get better speeds, and ability to host your own server.

You can see what I mean here, there is definitely a problem, though for not everyone. You might be lucky and not get it, if you're not in an area that they're stealing stuff from residential users. Clearly they have the capability to fix this problem for people whenever they feel like it... which is why there's on and off days, and usually after calling it's alright for an hour or so.

What I'll be getting next is Business Optimum Online with Boost.

I have the same problem with the TV.

I sat around on the phone again tonight because it was so annoying. We actually got somewhere tonight. At the moment, we've been crystal clear of ALL packet loss since around 8PM I think.

I'll monitor it over the next few days. If this is stable, I won't jump for business yet.

  6. ShAdoW Says:

Yep TV and phone work fine atm. I can't wait until verizon installs fios. My internet is ALSO very slow some days. (random)

  7. Jcink Says:

That's the thing. I actually want to get FiOS, but the business package isn't as powerful as the residential one currently :| and I need the business one to be able to host a server unfortunately, which is also more expensive. They are planning on rolling out a bunch of better plans soon though, but once I get OOL for business, I am stuck with it for a year, which is why I'm trying to avoid it. It'll probably be about a year before fios comes around with that stuff though anyway, but still. That, and the installation for FiOS is really complicated and it's an all day deal for them to come here and do stuff too.

oh man i feel so bad for you having to deal with this shat its back up again

  9. ShAdoW Says:

    Try AOL!

    The best ISP

QUOTE (Jcink @ November 29, 2007 12:04 am) I have the same problem with the TV.

Really? The TV has always been perfect for me. I bet it has something to do with the region or something because you people in Jersey are apparently having worse service than people in New York, like me.

    @Shadow: AOL the best ISP?...lol

  11. Jcink Says:

Optimum is now saying my router is going bad, and says I'm off track. Because on the latest test of unplugging in the router, and putting it in directly, the speed was fine and there was no loss. Though yet, after plugging the router in again, there was still no packet loss for hours and hours. Pretty confusing. I am perhaps on the wrong track blaming Cablevision, but it does seem strange.

There is one way to know, but it's somewhat risky, and that is to install custom firmware. I have one picked out and plan to do this at around 5:00PM EST so I can debug this problem. This will require downtime so I'm posting this notice.

If it doesn't come back online minutes after 5:00PM or around there, the router is likely bricked, and I'll have to buy a new one.

  12. kruz Says:

how long do you calculate downtime will be ?

    hope everything works out fine

  13. Jcink Says:

If I brick it, an hour or more. If I don't, 5 minutes.

  14. kruz Says:

    okay thankz for da info

  15. Jcink Says:

    Upgrade fine. No brick.

Now we should be able to diagnose this problem easier.

    The situation seems better now.

No packet loss ALL of today since after about 6 when I installed the new firmware and updated a few settings.

I will watch it closely though. But things are looking up.

    This problem has been solved.

I've removed the information about my ISP because they helped me get this issue solved.

For the past days or so, all has been well. In case anyones wondering, if you check the graphs and see the big gap in it, that wasn't an outage or anything, the graph stopped and I had to reset it, but it kept moving anyway :| so it screwed up all the averages and measures.
