Back Online
Mar 20 2008, 06:45 PMWe are back online after nearly 16 hours of being DDoS attacked.
New measures were put in place to deflect the attack, as it did not go away and it is still on going right now.
At the moment all services haven't been restored just yet, such as IRC and air proxy. Some parts of the forums still may not work but we will be keeping a close eye.
Further configuration will be necessary on the new firewall, so please bear with us as we work with it.
There is also still a chance that downtime will occur if things worsen, but for now the firewall we have installed is doing a very good job.
What you need to do now:
If you haven't, please update your domain IP addresses to: 67.81.196.235. All b1.jcink.com and other jcink domains were updated about 2 hours ago now and have been, so your own domains may already be pointed if using CNAME.
It can take up to 24 hours for domain IPs to get re pointed, but if you're experiencing problems please post here.
I thank everyone for sticking with us through this issue, and I deeply apologize for what has happened.
-Jcink

Well, as always I only caught the tail end of the problem but once again it seems to have been sorted extremely quickly. I've been on staff at sites that have had DDoS attacks, sites much larger than Jcink, that have taken much longer to achieve this level of control whilst the attacks are on going so congrats to you!
Great service as ever
Mar 20 2008, 06:49 PM
1. Do you know who is doing this?
2. Do you know what they want?

Phew, you had me scared.
Oh, and what do you mean by changing the IP address?
Mar 20 2008, 07:51 PM
Well, if you're a domain owner, or you are using free subdomains, you need to update to the new IP address in the first post. If you're not though, and you just use b1.jcink.com, nothing for you to do. Domain owners will understand.
Mar 20 2008, 08:00 PM
Makes sense since we just use b1.jcink.com.
Keep it up!
Mar 20 2008, 08:05 PM

Mar 21 2008, 06:28 AM
how to update this IP adress?
Mar 21 2008, 06:31 AM
I'm getting some kind of an error when trying to access any of my sites:
Warning: Unknown(http://192.168.1.96/noad.txt): failed to open stream: Connection timed out in Unknown on line 0
Warning: (null)(): Failed opening 'http://192.168.1.96/noad.txt' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in Unknown on line 0
Not really sure what they mean :S
Mar 21 2008, 06:36 AM
i have the same error i think it has to do something with updating IP adress Jcink said in first post.
Mar 21 2008, 06:45 AM
I have updated my IP addresses, did them about 10 hours ago
Mar 21 2008, 07:14 AM
can u tell me how to do that?
Mar 21 2008, 08:11 AM
Well, depends on your domain registrar, my domains are pointed to afraid.org so I just log-in and change the IP through there, but you might be able to log in to where you bought your domain and change it from there.
Mar 21 2008, 08:26 AM
I'm on s1 jcink hosting. freejcinkhosting.afraid.org...

Mar 21 2008, 01:02 PM
Cmon please answer our questions
Mar 21 2008, 01:11 PM
The simple answer is that all these problems have been caused by this. I can't really go over anything right now (the way I'm accessing the internet to get this message out is... well can't really explain but its not easy). I plan to address everything once the network is *stable* again.
Mar 21 2008, 01:13 PM
ok
Mar 21 2008, 01:13 PM
I Just read we can be attacked again around 9pm est tonight ? is there anyway to block that attacks or something ? i have a league and this attacks are fking me up lol
Mar 21 2008, 01:14 PM
I read the same thing too
Mar 21 2008, 01:15 PM
No; we were attacked and were down from 9PM last night onward, but right now we're not down, though still being attacked.
Mar 21 2008, 01:16 PM
thank god
Mar 21 2008, 01:17 PM
Good , i was scare lol , i hope this hackers give up or something we can block them , i dont see the funny point of attack a forum , what do you win by doing that ? come on
Mar 21 2008, 01:20 PM
My members are reporting issues with posting messages, the message appears in the portal however clicking on it and you get a message telling you the topic may have been deleted or moved ? and now they are telling me that all posts require approval from a moderator ?
Mar 21 2008, 01:23 PM
he said the boards went wack when he rebooted he said to put it in the JFB support and he will try to fix it
Mar 21 2008, 01:23 PM
I faced no problems since yesterday, you're doing a great job, Jcink.
Thanks a lot
Mar 21 2008, 01:26 PM
Do you have a temp support board anywhere for when it goes down or when you do the upgrades? And around what time will you do the upgrades so we can kind of have a warning in advance?
Mar 21 2008, 06:32 PM
Dang, that was rough.
