Posticons, Macros, and Wrappers

Nov 12 2008, 08:22 PM

Today we've added two new customization features to JFB. First off, you can now change post icons, the announcement macro, and the collapse/expand macro via your ACP. For more information on the macros, please see here. This is great to take advantage of for all skins, and perhaps to make custom post icons for the upcoming holiday season(s) if you wish.

In addition, we've also introduced a more advanced feature to the board wrappers system. It's called: wrapper variables. Coders and administrators will want to take a look at the new things you can do with the board wrappers. See here for more information. Please read it carefully to understand all the options and let us know if you have any questions.

I love the wrapper vars! This will help me make some really advanced codes.

  2. chakka Says:

I may just break down in tears...

or not, but either way YAAAAAAY!

Oh, one thing though, just because I'm naturally picky, any chance of getting REP icon Macros?

  3. Jcink Says:

Oh, darn. I completely forgot about that. But don't worry, I'll add that right away because now all the hard work of figuring out how to do these overrides is complete.

  4. chakka Says:

    Woot Woot!

  5. Jcink Says:

By the way, most of this was Chakka's suggestion - so you should thank him a little

  6. Gunblaza Says:

    chakka, I thank you mucho.

  7. chakka Says:

    No thanking, just grovelling

  8. posiden5665 Says:

    awesome update jcinkorz

  9. Jonathan Says:

Nice effort in improving the forum hosting another step forward.

  10. coolmike454 Says:

Nice work Jcink, keep up the great work!!

  11. chakka Says:

Hmm one other possible suggestion would be to use Group Pips as Macros?

  12. Sudifice Says:

    Nice. <3

I'm not too big on that idea, I like the group icons being with the group settings, though I like the updates. They've been wanted for a while, glad to see them released.

    I agree.

Making a group icon is fun yes not easy, but it is fun!

  15. Gunblaza Says:

any way you can get the avatar and sig variables to actually show the avatar and sigs instead of Boolean?

  16. Cedric Says:

    Good job, nice update.

  17. chakka Says:

The link next to board wrappers in ACP seems to go to the wrong Wiki article for me

  18. posiden5665 Says:

Actually i think its good it goes to that one cause for new people thats where you wanna send them and for advanced they can go there and just click the link to go to the advanced

  19. chakka Says:

Oh I didn't notice that lol

  20. Pandemikk Says:

Small error... In your Wiki.. Not a big deal but hey thought I'd point it out.

    <{P_ICON12}> Post Icon #12

    <{P_ICON13}> Post Icon #14

I love the new macros, especially the upcoming Rep +/-.

The wrapper vars are REALLY nice... Although I do wish the Avatar and Sigs weren't boonlean.

Those are view settings. I didn't know if they were worthless or not, but they were added anyway. They're supposed to be boolean. Avatar and sig variables with the actual content were not called.

I added all information readily available to me that I saw. Nothing new had to be called from the database and I intended to keep it like that so resource usage would be low. It is possible I'll add real |avatar| and |sig| vars but that would mean the users avatar and sig must be drawn from the database no matter where they are; I may test that and if things go okay, it'll be added. if not then I won't.

    ok that works

  23. leafsfan7 Says:

do these variables work in custom portal blocks too? And if not could you make that possible?

  24. Jcink Says:

They don't work there. There's a chance it could be added... but I don't know, we'll see.

  25. VikesRule Says:

Love the post icon update, any chance that you could eventually make it so we could add more post icons like you can on IPB boards?

  26. Cathastrophe Says:

Whoa. I actually know how to use this.

Thanks, I always thought that little arrow looked ugly >.>

  27. Brandon Says:

    These updates are great.

  28. Jcink Says:

Sorry I've been slow, rep + and - icons will be added today to the macros.

    And the announcement?

  30. Jcink Says:

That's been there already since this was installed.

    CODE T_TOPIC_ANNOUNCEMENT ->  Announcement

The only thing I missed was the rep icons.

  31. Chip_J Says:

Do you have to add it in manually?

  32. Jcink Says:

    Yes you do.

    See the wiki article: http://jcink.com/main/wiki/doku.php?id=jfb-skinning-macros

  33. Chip_J Says:

oh I'm sorry Jcink I know you get tired of answering common answers that can easily be found.

  34. Jcink Says:

    Rep macros are out

  35. chakka Says:

Oh crikey when I first read that I thought you meant they couldn't be done lol (as in they had been thrown out of the project instead of out as in released lol)

Looking good though! I've been wanting this feature for near on three years lol I don't even run any boards with Rep enabled yet I'm still really excited that I can now change them

  36. mixapella Says:

These Post Icons are great, but they don't show up when you click View New Posts. In FF anyway.

    Anychance of fixing this?
