Data Recovered

Feb 11 2011, 07:34 PM

It is with great regret today that I inform everyone that the system had a hardware failure.

During our routine maintenance on February 10th, something went horribly wrong, and it turned out to be a faulty drive. It was not expected. We quickly backed up all of the content as it was, and then shut down the server to begin the process of swapping out the bad drives.

This entire process took endless hours; and the structure of our files of our databases has been completely rebuilt. They have been placed on a dedicated drive so this problem can be avoided in the future.

We can't apologize enough for what happened here. Going forward I'm going to make sure nothing like this can happen again. Already some of that has been implemented as a result of the database move.

Users who have paid for ad removal credits will be getting some extra that will be applied to their account soon. Also, just for the weekend, there are no ads on the entire service. We hope we can make this up in more ways than one.

I'd also like to extend a thanks to everyone on the twitter who stayed patient through the whole process and for their words of encouragement. When this issue first happened, I thought that there were going to be a lot of angry people. But even when things weren't going so well, I didn't see anyone freak out or start flaming us. Thank you for your patience and for trusting us to restore everything.

All boards should be as they were on February 10th, 2010 at 2:00AM before the crash. If your board isn't working, please let us know. I will take a look at it.

Routine Maintenance

Feb 9 2011, 08:52 PM

From 2AM to around 4AM EST Feb 10th, we're doing some maintenance. Just some backup and general clean-up related procedures to bring things up to date. Service probably won't, or will sporadically be available while we perform the work.

As always, keep in touch with news by following the twitter:

jQuery Updated

Feb 4 2011, 03:27 PM

Just a quick update for developers; we've updated the boards to the latest version of jQuery. Verison 1.5 has a lot of little changes that should improve load time of skins that use jQuery code, amongst other things. You can read more about the technical details here.

Additionally, instead of hosting the file ourselves, we're now using google's Ajax CDN. This increases the chance that the file is already loaded in the user's browser because so many others are linking to it from other sites.
