NickServ

NickServ, is the Nickname Services of Nightfire IRC. This helps you manage your nickname.

This page will show you all the commands that a user would want to know, and what they do.

Ghosting

Ghosting is used in the event that another user, or a ghost, is using your nickname, and you can't use it. A ghost, is normally made when you disconnect from the server, or ping out, and your nick stays around, it's not a user, but it's there. In some events as well, a user will change their nick to yours, sometimes on purpose, sometimes without knowing.

In order to get rid of a ghost, or a user on your nick, you would use this command,

/MSG NickServ GHOST NICK PASS

For example,

/MSG NickServ GHOST Sindacious wiki

This will make the IRC services kill the nick (makes the user, or nick disconnect) opening you to be able to /nick to your nickname.

Grouping

Grouping is used if you use more then one nick, and would like to have both registered.

To group a nick, you have to already have a nick registered. If you do, you would witch to the nick you wish to group, then use this command

/MSG NickServ GROUP NICK PASS

Nick would be your already registered nick, and pass would be that nicks password.

Ungrouping

To ungroup a nick from your main nick, you would use,

/MSG NickServ UNGROUP NICK

NICK would be the nick your wanting to ungroup from your main nick.

Identify

Identify is a very important command, this is because you have to identify to NickServ every time you get on the network.

In order to use identify you need to be registered to NickServ, which is covered in,

In order to identify, you would use this command,

/MSG NickServ IDENTIFY PASS

PASS, being the password you used when you registered the nickname, be sure your useing this while your on the nick you registered.

Info

Info is used to get information on a nick, this can tell you the last address the person was on (or the current), this also will show when they were last seen, and other information that the user has set through the “SET” command, which will be covered later on this page.

To use into use,

/MSG NickServ INFO NICK

NICK would the the nickname of the user you want information on.

Listchans

Listchans primary function is to give you information on this command is to tell you what channel's you have channel access on (privileges).

To use listchans, use

/MSG NickServ LISTCHANS

Once you have done this, NickServ will notify you with all the channels you have access in, and what access you have in those channels.

Register

The register Command is covered here,

Set

Set is a command that has sub-commands that you use to set information about yourself with NickServ, however not all of the set commands are used to set information, it is also used to change your email, and password, and other things that will now be covered.

Email

The email set command is used to change your email that your using on your nick.

The command to change your email is,

/MSG NickServ SET EMAIL EMAIL

An example of this command would be,

/MSG NickServ SET EMAIL jc@sindacious.com

This will change your email to the email you set, and this is the email that you will get verification on changing your password, etc, on.

Nightfire will send you an email about the change, and will ask you execute a command similar to this in order to verify the email change,

/MSG NickServ VERIFY EMAILCHG NICK XXXXXXXXX

NICK would be the nick you changed your email with, and X being random numbers.

Emailmemos

Emailmemos forwards Memo's send to you via MemoServ to your email.

To use emailmemos use,

/MSG NickServ SET EMAILMEMOS [ON|OFF]

By default, this is setting is set off, however if you want to turn it on, use the “ON” option.

Nomemo

Nomemo can be used to stop people from being able to send memo's to you through MemoServ.

To use nomemo, use,

/MSG NickServ SET NOMEMO [ON|OFF]

This command is also be default set to off, and if you want to turn it on, use the “ON” option.

Noop

Noop is used to make it so services can't auto-mode you, which basically means, when you join a channel, and identify, prevents ChanServ from setting modes on you in channels you have access in, and you have to use the OP and VOICE commands, which is covered in ChanServ.

To use noop,

/MSG NickServ SET NOOP [ON|OFF]

This is by default set to OFF. To turn it on, use the command with “ON”.

Neverop

Neverop is used to prevent others from adding you to channel access lists (Means they can't add you to auto-op, etc.)

To use neverop,

/MSG NickServ SET NEVEROP [ON|OFF]

This is by default set off, and you can turn it on by using the command with “ON”.

Password

Password is to change your nick's password.

To use password, use,

/MSG NickServ SET PASSWORD PASS

PASS, would be your new password you would like to use.

Privmsg

Privmsg is to make it that services won't Notice you, but Private message you in IRC when getting messages from Services.

To use this command use,

/MSG NickServ SET PRIVMSG [ON|OFF]

This is by default set to OFF, meaning Services will notice you when using them, rather then sending you a private message. To make it send you messages, rather then notices, use “ON” when using the command.

Enforce

Enforce makes it so when someone is on your nick, but doesn't know the password, services will change their name to GuestXXXX, X being random numbers.

To use the enforce command, use,

/MSG NickServ SET ENFORCE [ON|OFF]

On Nightfire, this is set on by default, giving a user only 60 seconds to identify to a registered nick before changing the nick. To turn this off, use “OFF” when using the command.
